Historic Lovelock, Nevada Lovelock is located in Pershing County 56 miles northeast of Fallon. Lovelock is known as the “Banana Belt” and was established in 1868 and was incorporated on September 26, 1917. The community roughly has 2,400 residents. It is 2 square miles in size. Lovelock is the biggest community in Pershing County and is the county seat. It is in a valley bounded by the Humboldt Range to the east and to the north and west are the Trinity and Seven Troughs rangers. The county also contains Rye Patch State Recreation Area, Imlay, Mill City, Grass Valley and Unionville. The county dates back to 1919, and named after General John J. Pershing, a World War I hero. The city was named after George Lovelock a pioneer, miner, carpenter, stage station operator, business owner with varied experience in many areas, and a tireless and faithful worker in the development of agriculture and mineral resources in the area. Things to see and do around the area are: Lovelock Indian Caves, Immigrant Trail, 120 year old Lovelock Depot, City Museum, Pershing County Courthouse, and Rye Patch Reservoir. Lovelock’s important projects include the Restoration of the Old Railroad Depot and Downtown Beautification. Unique to the area is the Locking your Love custom. This is a Chinese custom of locking one’s love to another by taking two ends of a chain and attaching a lock and throwing away the key. In Lovers Lock Plaza couples, friends and family can do ceremonies and buy the needed supplies. On Valentine’s Day this is an especially popular event. Lovelocks other events are Lovelock Balloon Lovers Aloft, Street Fever Show n Shine, and Frontier Days. |
